Great results in Meredith

13/5/2017

Whilst Geelong and Colac put up a strong fight in all grades, the day belonged to Ballarat in round two of the Tri-Series at Meredith today. In D grade, BSCC's female rising star Iesha Humber put up an excellent fight to finish in 3rd place. It was anyone's race right up to the line in C grade which eventually saw BSCC's Pete Canny continuing his improvement with age winning by a bike length. Geelong and Colac stood no chance against the might of the Ballarat squad in B grade. Our ever-consistent Tony Mirabella broke away on the final lap to take the honours ahead of fellow BSCC riders; Rob Forsyth, Jim Crumpler, Jason Birch & Nick Brown. In A grade, Craig Lee & Dayne Pearce spent quite a bit of the morning up the road in breakaways which suited fellow teammates well. In the end however, it came down to a sprint which Tim Canny positioned himself well to roll around the opposition in the final meters to take the honours.
Well done to everyone who represented the club today - there was certainly lots to be proud of.

Tri-Series Team Racing Fun

29/4/2017

The 2017 Tri-Series kicked off today at Dereel with a great showing from Team BSCC. Due to the strength of Ballarat numbers in A & B Grade the riders were split into 3 even teams. The revised format made for fun and tactical racing on a challenging course which most enjoyed. In A Grade, Liam White, Tim Canny and Paul Myers broke away early with the remainder of the field attacking each other in an attempt to bridge the gap on their own. The B Grade race saw Paul Humphries and Dan Bucknall breakaway but Matt Freeman worked his butt off to bridge across before blowing himself up. It was great to see some old faces back racing like Phil Orr and Will Geor.
16 C Grade riders raced in the traditional Tri-Series format with Geelong and Colac riders taking it up to Ballarat. In the end, Geelong rider Nick Ianham out sprinted Pete Canny and Matt Dickinson.
Ballarat's rising star Iesha Humber took out the D Grade race in an impressive display of cycling.
Thank you to Steve Kennedy and Matt Dickinson for setting up, Sam Smith for chief marshalling and our sponsors Finn Business Sales, Sovereign Park Motor Inn and SJ Butler Financial Planning.
The prestigious Brookman Handicap takes place next week from Snake Valley and is sponsored by Martin Concept Designs. Please get your entry in before Friday to give the handicapper plenty of time. See you then!

Lake Health Group Summer Road Series Round 1

11/2/2017

A fantastic turn out of 47 riders took part in the first round of the Lake Health Group Summer Road Series today kindly sponsored by FIKA Coffee Brewers. Unfortunately, A grade didn't complete the race due to a crash just before the wall but thankfully no-one was reported to be seriously injured. The B Grade race saw Sam Smith in multiple breakaways before breaking away himself to take the win on the same course he won at last year. The field of 14 C grade riders was down to 7 by the time they hit the wall. On one of his favourite courses, Matt Dickinson powered away on the final climb and held on for victory. In D grade, Steve Barrile took the honours over Nina Kerr and Grace Maine. Thank you to Jeremy Humber and Pete Canny for setting up and thanks to Sam Smith and the Chinese Dragon Boat crew for marshalling.

Liam White crowned Club Champion

26/11/2016

The Club Championships took place in Blampied today in cool and windy conditions but that didn't deter the 33 riders that took part over the 4 grades. The 99km championship race began in a reasonably civilised fashion with no one willing to do too much too early. The first serious attack came towards the end of the second lap which caught a lot of riders by surprise and resulted in a couple losing touch with the main bunch. It wasn't until the 7th and final lap where attacks were more common and riders were made to work hard to stay in touch. Eventually, it came down to a final sprint with everyone hugging the gutter and reluctant to hit the wind. Jay Bourke went early which prompted Liam White and Jez McInnes to step it up which they did. Liam was too strong in the end taking the championship by a bike length over Jez just ahead of a fast finishing Pat Shaw.
The B grade race saw a few breaks appear followed by re-groups. In the end, Rob Ellis broke away with about 6kms to go and rode strong to stay away winning by around 10 meters.
In C grade, Patrick Cashin was in a solo break away for almost half the race. Jesse Norton was able to cross to him but the rest of the grade was able to work together to ensure they didn't stay away. The race came down to a sprint for the line where Pete Canny positioned himself well to take the win.
The D grade race was tough from the start with James Knipe lighting it up early. The pace was so strong that riders dropped off one by one, lap by lap. However, Belinda Day was determined not to be dropped and in fact worked with James to stay away from the rest of the field. In the end, James out-sprinted Belinda to take the win.
Thank you to today's race sponsor; Flooring Xtra, thanks to Craig Lee and Dave Hearn for setting up today's course and thank you to Sam Smith for chief marshalling and Monica Canny for assisting and photography.
