Wednesday Night Crits Are Back!

4/10/2017

What a sensational night to welcome back our Wednesday crits! The temperature was warm, there was very little wind and the new road surface.... well, it's probably the smoothest in the country. This all ensured that the racing was fun, fast and mostly pleasant - although some might argue that.
34 competitors took part over 3 grades and all 3 races came down to an exciting final sprint. Thank you to Pete Canny for setting up, Kanga for chief marshalling, Matt Dickinson and Andrew Sullivan for corner marshalling and John Faulkner for finish line photography. With no Saturday race this weekend our next race is next Wednesday. Please jump onto www.raceloop.com early to register.

Ballarat Mayor Launches BSCC's Race Season

23/9/2017

Today was a significant day for BSCC with the reopening of the Vic Park crit circuit following the excellent upgrade of it's surface. It was also the first race of the SJ Butler Spring Road Series and the mayor of Ballarat Samantha McIntosh, was there to officially launch it.
Exactly 40 competitors took their place on the start line in warm but slightly windy conditions. Many riders mentioned that they'll be a bit rusty after some time off the bike through winter however, everyone seemed to enjoy the challenge and the opportunity to experience the new surface.
Thank you to everyone who made the effort to get there today - it was a great success. Thank you to Gerard & Jenni White, Sam Smith and Monica Canny for marshalling and photography. Please see our Instagram page for photos.

Bold Gration claims Chris Cashin

20/5/2017

A gutsy move with about 4km to go paid dividends for Shannon Gration in today's Chris Cashin Memorial Handicap. Following some advice from club great Jay Bourke, Gration broke away on his own and managed to solo to the finish line in a strong display. Other riders from Grations group combined well to make up 2nd, 3rd & 4th places with Pete Canny riding strongest from the 4th scratch group finishing 5th. It was great to see Chloe McIntosh come over the line in 6th place after riding strongly all day. It was a long day for the scratch and 2nd scratch groups who didn't even sight the leading bunch all race.
Thank you to Shane Butler for sponsoring the race, Stu Brien and Finn Business Sales for sponsoring the autumn series, our dragon boat marshals who swept corners and ensured rider safety, Sam Smith for chief marshalling and Matt Freeman and Tim Canny for setting up.
The VRS Fred Icke is one of the clubs biggest fundraisers for the year and it takes place next Saturday. Entries close at midnight on Sunday night. Great results in Meredith

13/5/2017

Whilst Geelong and Colac put up a strong fight in all grades, the day belonged to Ballarat in round two of the Tri-Series at Meredith today. In D grade, BSCC's female rising star Iesha Humber put up an excellent fight to finish in 3rd place. It was anyone's race right up to the line in C grade which eventually saw BSCC's Pete Canny continuing his improvement with age winning by a bike length. Geelong and Colac stood no chance against the might of the Ballarat squad in B grade. Our ever-consistent Tony Mirabella broke away on the final lap to take the honours ahead of fellow BSCC riders; Rob Forsyth, Jim Crumpler, Jason Birch & Nick Brown. In A grade, Craig Lee & Dayne Pearce spent quite a bit of the morning up the road in breakaways which suited fellow teammates well. In the end however, it came down to a sprint which Tim Canny positioned himself well to roll around the opposition in the final meters to take the honours.
Well done to everyone who represented the club today - there was certainly lots to be proud of.

Tri-Series Team Racing Fun

29/4/2017

The 2017 Tri-Series kicked off today at Dereel with a great showing from Team BSCC. Due to the strength of Ballarat numbers in A & B Grade the riders were split into 3 even teams. The revised format made for fun and tactical racing on a challenging course which most enjoyed. In A Grade, Liam White, Tim Canny and Paul Myers broke away early with the remainder of the field attacking each other in an attempt to bridge the gap on their own. The B Grade race saw Paul Humphries and Dan Bucknall breakaway but Matt Freeman worked his butt off to bridge across before blowing himself up. It was great to see some old faces back racing like Phil Orr and Will Geor.
16 C Grade riders raced in the traditional Tri-Series format with Geelong and Colac riders taking it up to Ballarat. In the end, Geelong rider Nick Ianham out sprinted Pete Canny and Matt Dickinson.
Ballarat's rising star Iesha Humber took out the D Grade race in an impressive display of cycling.
Thank you to Steve Kennedy and Matt Dickinson for setting up, Sam Smith for chief marshalling and our sponsors Finn Business Sales, Sovereign Park Motor Inn and SJ Butler Financial Planning.
The prestigious Brookman Handicap takes place next week from Snake Valley and is sponsored by Martin Concept Designs. Please get your entry in before Friday to give the handicapper plenty of time. See you then!
