2014 CRITS POSTPONED
Road: Crits Postponed
MTB: 2014 Spring Series of Dirt Crits
2014 Spring Series of Dirt Crits is Starting!
As promised at the end of last season the track has been completely changed and if you haven't seen it since, you are in for a surprise. The new track consists of approximately 90% new trail and alot of new features, including berms, rollers and even a skinny.
On the first weekend in September approximately 20 local MTBers were trained in the art of trail building, the crit track was used as a test bed for our new found knowledge. By the time crits start the track will be ready for use, but it will continue to be a work in progress. Once completed it will be Ballarat's first legal purpose built XC MTB trail on public land, but more importantly it will be able to be used in all conditions! Check out our Facebook page for photos.
If you are interested in trail building or would like to be part of the process the next two working bees will be on 20-Sep and 4-Oct between 2-5pm.
"trailing building is a democracy, you vote with your shovel"
Where: at the usually place (next to Mt Clear High School), for full details see the Dirt Crits page.
MTB: First Legal MTB Trail
MTB: Ballarat's first LEGAL MTB Trail
We can't stress how big of a deal this really is. As most MTB enthusiasts would know there many great MTB trails in and around the Ballarat on public land, but none are recognised by the land owners as MTB specific trails. Some are walking tracks and others are fire or access roads but none have been purpose built with MTBing in mind. Well that is all about to change!
BSCC has been working closely with the Department of Environment and Primary Industries (DEPI), the land owners/manager of the Canadian Forest, to build a trail that is fun, challenging and probably most important of all, can can be riden in all weather conditions. We have chosen the section of land we regularly use for our Dirt Cirts as the location for this historically trail.
Many months of planning and discussions between the various parties have been undertaken, with tracks works finally started in mid to late June 2014. Which will continue for a number of months. As part of the agreement between BSCC and DEPI, a trail building workshop will be conducted to provide guidance to members of BSCC, DEPI and other involved parties in how to build and maintain trails for all users.
WIth the knowledge gained from the trail workshop here's hoping for many more trails in the Ballarat area.
