A review of the year showed that it was a successful one even though the pandemic saw a premature end to much of the racing, coaching and other prgrams and plans. Sadly, stepping off the committee was long serving committee member Daniel Taylor and club secretary Brett Martin. We thanked both members for their volunteered time and effort to help grow and develop our club. Incoming committee members are Luke Taylor as club secretary and Graeme Hilder in a general committee position. We welcome them as we look forward to an exciting new chapter in cycling with the introduction of AusCycling from 1st November 2020.

]]><![CDATA[ELECTED 2020 BSCC COMMITTEE]]>Thu, 17 Oct 2019 10:15:38 GMThttps://www.cyclingballarat.com.au/announcements/elected-2020-bscc-committeeOn Monday 14th October 2019, the BSCC AGM took place at our Marty Busch Reserve club rooms. Sadly, we said goodbye to outgoing club secretary, Jenni White who has been a loyal and hardworking member of our committee for many years. We thanked her for her tremendous contribution to the club. Also, stepping aside was Bree Higgins who was also thanked for her years of service however, she was absent on the night.
Elected onto the committee was Damien Keirl and Jess Egan. Both have been terrific BSCC members who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in their respective divisions. 
Brett Martin has been elected to the club secretary position moving from a general committee position. Brett has done an excellent job of organising club clothing and EntryBoss amongst many other things. He will fill this role ideally.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT (SUMMARY)
Thanks to the hard work, passion and dedication of the five divisional sub-committees, the Ballarat Sebastopol Cycling Club (BSCC) has had another successful year. Overall, the club has seen a strong growth in membership along with an increase in BSCC organised events, particularly high-level events.
Some highlights for the club during the past 12 months include:
  • Winning a $200,000 Pick My Project State Government grant to build a state-of-the-art BMX track at Marty Busch Reserve. The construction has now been completed and the new all-weather surface looks brilliant.
  • Successfully organising and hosting another record-breaking Fred Icke Road Race – the most popular one-day event on the Cycling Victoria calendar.
  • Nicholas White and Jesse Norton becoming National Road Champions.
  • Alaya Humber becoming the first-ever female to win the Wangaratta Wheel Race in its 97-year history.
  • Successfully organising and hosting the inaugural Shifty Fifty mountain bike event.
  • Successfully organising and hosting national rounds of Cycle-cross (CX) in partnership with the VOGA cycling club in Creswick.
Congratulations and thank you to the sub-committee members who have volunteered their time and worked tirelessly for the betterment of our club. As a result of your commitment BSCC has a very exciting future ahead.

]]><![CDATA[Ballarat Cycling Carnival]]>Sun, 05 Nov 2017 22:55:17 GMThttps://www.cyclingballarat.com.au/announcements/ballarat-cycling-carnivalWe are excited to announce that Ballarat will play host to the inaugural Ballarat Cycling Carnival on 1st January 2018. We’re also thrilled to have the Amy Gillett Foundation on board as a major partner for the event. The carnival fills an important gap in the calendar due to the absence of the Bay Crits. Word from peloton is that many cyclists are looking for a race to help prepare themselves for the Road Nationals that begin here on January 3rd.
The Ballarat Cycling Carnival will take place at our criterium circuit in Victoria Park from 12 noon until 8:30pm. It will not only include racing for the elite but for all ages and abilities. Thanks to the generosity of Freight Bar and The Western Hotel there will be a fully catered trackside village with onsite DJ. Ex pro cyclist and BSCC member Pat Shaw is also locked in to do the commentary.

]]><![CDATA[Crit Circuit Resurfacing]]>Sat, 01 Jul 2017 07:02:56 GMThttps://www.cyclingballarat.com.au/announcements/crit-circuit-resurfacingOn the back of a thorough feasibility study and many voluntary hours behind the scenes, our entire criterium circuit in Victoria Park has been resurfaced in a smooth hot mix asphalt. We are pleased that Council have listened to our requests for a safe cycling circuit by upgrading our existing one to an excellent standard. We will continue working with Council on other cycling facility ambitions such as men's and women's change rooms and toilets, road bollards, drinking taps and perhaps even lighting. Stay tuned as we keep you updated. In the meantime, enjoy riding on Ballarat's smoothest surface!​
]]><![CDATA[New Crit Track Update]]>Sat, 11 Mar 2017 07:47:55 GMThttps://www.cyclingballarat.com.au/announcements/new-crit-track-updateAs you're probably aware, our growing club is desperate for a new and dedicated criterium circuit with change room and toilet facilities. Fortunately, we were given funding to explore the issue and a feasibility study was then conducted. Please click here to find the results of the study which have since been adopted by the club.

For the time being, we are committed to using the existing track at Victoria Park until we get a new one. Council will continue to maintain the track to a safe standard.

We are now moving ahead with the study's recommendation and taking a proactive advocacy role, seeking council support for a major new facility. Already, our project team; Shannon Meadows, Tim and Peter Canny are meeting with senior executives at Council and initial feedback is very positive. We will keep you aware of the progress of this exciting project.
