Recreational Team Time Trials
Recreational Team Time Trials
In 2009 and 2010, Ballarat Sebastopol Cycling Club ran a series of events for recreational riders who don't want to jump straight into racing, but want a new cycling challenge, and to meet like-minded people. The series will run again in 2011. Here's how it works. 1. Bring your group of 4 to 9 riders and register from 8:30 AM for a 9:30 AM event start. The dates of the events are listed below, and they’re on the 2011 road race fixture. Closer to the date of the event, the details also appear on the on-line calendar. You need a team name, such as the place your group usually rides from - Lake View, Racers Café, Cycle City, City Oval - or your company or workplace such as ‘Dennis Family Homes.’ If you don’t have your own riding group, register as an individual and we will allocate you to a team with which you can comfortably ride. We usually have teams who ride in Ballarat conditions at an average speed between 20 and 35 km/h. 2. You will ride over a course that’s interesting and sometimes challenging but never mountainous. Where the RecTTT ride coincides with a BSCC race day, the course will be similar to the one used in the race, but your event will start prior to the race start. A downloadable version of the full BSCC racing fixture is at the top of the on-line calendar page. 3. The concept is simple. Your bunch rides together, looking after one another, with the aim of finishing the course as a complete group in the fastest average time possible. Like the team time trials you might have seen in the Tour de France ... except more fun. The aim is to give you a taste of what competitive riding is like beyond your weekend ride groups. Each time your group participates though the series, the aim is to improve your team's average time. “Serious Fun.” The event is not designed to be a race – it’s a chance to challenge your friends in a fun but serious manner with the coordination and professionalism of your local cycling club. 4. The series consists of 5-8 rides. Your team can participate in as many of these rides as you wish. Once again, the aim is simply to improve your average time compared with the previous rides. You may add, remove and substitute team members between events. 5. The cost per event is $12, which includes insurance for the day. An alternative, which we encourage you to consider, is a BSCC “Cycling for All” License. It costs $66, and it's valid for 12 months. This gives you membership of Ballarat Sebastopol Cycling Club, insurance for all the RecTTT rides, and also insurance for when you are out on logged training rides. For more details please click HERE. We would love you to consider the Cycling for All option. More members of our club means a stronger voice for cycling with official bodies such as the Ballarat City Council. Membership creates the chance to socialize and mingle with like-minded people, it gives you advice on bikes, discounts on clothing and access to club functions, training advice and training rides and events with the club.
