The Ballarat area has a wide variety and numerous locations where there are MTB trails, and it also has an active MTB community that is trying to spread the word to others about our sport.

Currently there are no official dedicated MTB trails in the Balarat area, but the BSCC MTB committee are currently in discussions with a number of land owners to try remedy this situation.

There are two main governing bodies responsible for the management of parks/forests in Victoria, DSE (Department of Sustainability and Environment) and Parks Victoria.  Each body has similar rules:

DSE's general rules for mountain bike riders are:

"Generally the majority of mountain bike riding opportunities are along existing State forest roads."

"In State forest, mountain bikes are generally not permitted on walking tracks or off formed vehicular tracks. Walking tracks are managed for walkers and are not available for use by bicycles."

Parks Victoria's general rules for mountain bike riders are:

"we ask that mountain bike riders use the vehicle tracks and stay off the walking tracks for reasons of safety and maintenance."
 

Now as mountain bike riders we know that most riders want "single track" but the land owners only want us on the vehicle tracks (dual track) so the big question is where are we 'allowed' to ride?  Well the answer to that is too complicated for this page, so instead we have listed some of the trails that our members have ridden in the past.

We have broken the trails into groups based on location, there are more trails at each location, however we just haven't had time to ride (and GPS them all), over time we hope to grow the trails listed here.
