Regular MTB Social rides around Ballarat

Here's some information about MTB Social rides that occur in Ballarat each week throughout the year, so long as the weather isn't too bad.  In some cases, even if it is.  There's some variety: groups that cater for beginners, intermediates, club racers and social cyclists.  All these rides welcome visitors, so if you're visiting Ballarat, or if you're a local looking for a new social ride, please come along, introduce yourself and join in.  Follow the group back to its preferred cafe for a bit of bragging about your cycling prowess!

Tuesday

  • Fuentes' Winter Night Ride leaves from Forest Resort Creswick at precisely 6.30pm during the Winter months (Apr to Oct). The course will be determined on the night, so if you are late you will miss the group. The ride will be about 1.5 to 2hrs in length, with a moderate skill level required.
You will need both front and rear lights and be self sufficient with your own spares (including a get home emergency light)

To be finished with a beer.

Thursday

As of 16-Feb-12, this group is yet to think of a good name.

Early morning ride through Canadian, meeting at Recreation Rd (just near the crit track) where it turns into dirt) at 6am. This offers enough time to workup a good sweat before before heading off to work.

This ride doesn't have a set course, but mostly it follows the 2011 Interwinter course, although most of the really good tracks do get picked up.

Saturday

Sunday

  • 'The Hard Men of the Hill' group met on the corner of Simpson and Lal Lal Streets Buninyong, at 8:00am each Sunday morning. The group is made up of a bunch of non serious riders who are out for a bit of exercise. However there is always a bit of a competition on who can ride the furtherest and fastest up the steep sections.

The normal course involves some of the back roads (fire trails) on the south side of Geelong Rd, then crosses over to ride up Granny Whites & Blackberry Lanes and to the top of Mt Buninyong, then it's an easy ride through Union Jack Reserve, down Fisken Rd, pass Ballarat Bird World (Eddy Ave) and to the coffee shop.  Recently new single tracks have been added to the beginning of this ride so sections of this are quite technical (and fun), so come along and give it a go.
